President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday approved the conferment of the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Commander National Strategic Command (NSC) General Syed Aamer Raza, recognizing his distinguished services.

The appointment had remained pending since December 2025, when Field Marshal Asim Munir became Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) under the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

The amendment abolished the office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, with the CDF assuming its responsibilities alongside those of the Chief of Army Staff.

The newly established four-star NSC commander now oversees Pakistan’s nuclear command and strategic forces, previously managed by the former CJCSC.

The honor comes a week after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promoted General Aamer  to the rank of four-star general and appointed him as commander of the National Strategic Command. Congratulating General Aamer, the prime minister expressed confidence in his ability to effectively shoulder the responsibilities of the country’s key strategic command.

On July 27, General Aamer also called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters, where he was congratulated on assuming command.
