To improve traffic discipline and reduce congestion on one of Karachi’s busiest thoroughfares, the Karachi Traffic Police have introduced an automated e-challan system for lane violations on Shahra-e-Faisal.
The initiative, launched under the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), came into effect on June 1 and aims to ensure stricter compliance with lane regulations through a faceless, technology-driven enforcement mechanism.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Mohammed Shah, the lane management plan reserves the two leftmost lanes for commercial vehicles and motorcycles.
Fast-moving private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and double-cabin vehicles, are prohibited from using these lanes. Instead, they must travel in the fast lane and the second lane from the right, which are designated exclusively for private traffic.
Shah explained that Shahra-e-Faisal consists of both three-lane and four-lane carriageway sections. In three-lane stretches, the middle lane may be shared by commercial and private vehicles depending on traffic conditions.
From Monday onwards, all lane violations will be detected and processed through the TRACS-based faceless e-ticketing system, eliminating manual intervention. Authorities have urged motorists to comply with lane regulations to promote safe and efficient traffic flow.
