TEHRAN: US broadcaster Fox News has claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has allegedly requested to step down due to limitations on his executive powers.
According to the report, President Pezeshkian is said to have informed the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei that he has been excluded from key decision-making processes, preventing him from effectively carrying out his constitutional duties.
Some reports further claim that the growing influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other hardline factions has weakened the role of the elected government, leaving the president and his cabinet sidelined from major policy decisions.
However, Iranian officials have strongly denied these claims. Sources linked to the presidential office and the IRGC said that President Pezeshkian has neither resigned nor submitted any request to do so, adding that he continues to perform his duties as normal.
The reports surfaced at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States are ongoing, while speculation about internal political differences within Iran has also been circulating in various media outlets.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from the Iranian government regarding any resignation or departure of President Pezeshkian.
