JACOBABAD: A shocking incident was reported in a village in Jacobabad, where armed men allegedly set fire to dozens of homes, reportedly as collective punishment over a love marriage.
The incident took place on 5 May in Goth Muhammad Siddiq Arain, where armed assailants opened fire and torched multiple houses, reducing them to ashes.
According to SSP Jacobabad Faizan Ali, initial investigations suggest that a couple from Goth Siddiq Arain and Goth Ghazi Khan Channa had contracted a love marriage through a court in Hyderabad. Following this, the attackers allegedly targeted the village in retaliation.
Police said five suspects have been arrested following raids at various locations. A case has been registered against 12 nominated and 20 unidentified individuals under Anti-Terrorism Act provisions, and further investigation teams have been formed to apprehend remaining suspects.
Despite several days passing, the arrest of all accused individuals has not yet been completed, leaving affected families in severe distress and uncertainty.
The arson attack has left dozens of families homeless, with residents now forced to live under the open sky amid extreme heat.
