Police in Lahore have arrested controversial TikToker Ali Jutt over allegations of disrespecting a verse of the Quran, while raids are being carried out at various locations to apprehend his absconding associates.
In a statement issued on X, Lahore police said they received information about the alleged desecration of a Quranic verse in Shahdara Town. Officers took immediate action and arrested those involved.
The statement added that a case has been registered over the incident, while raids are under way at different locations to arrest other suspects who fled the scene.
Lahore police further said that all aspects of the incident are being thoroughly investigated. It added that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible for hurting religious sentiments, and that maintaining law and order and protecting citizens will remain a priority.
The development comes after a video of Ali Jatt went viral on social media in which he was seen using an offensive remark alongside a Quranic verse.
Following the circulation of the video, social media users reacted strongly and demanded his immediate arrest and legal punishment.
After the case was registered and the seriousness of the matter became clear, the controversial TikToker issued an apology. However, many social media users and members of the public have continued to call for strict legal action against him.
