The government of Punjab has decided to provide stipends for Imams of 65,000 mosques located in the province.
The Chief Minister of Punjab said that the mosque imam is a respected and honored individual in society, and collecting donations from neighborhoods to pay the imam is inappropriate. The Punjab government will provide financial support to the mosque imam for their needs.
During the meeting, a briefing was given that Friday prayers and other congregational prayers are being held in all mosques across Punjab. A mosque is the house of Allah, and maintaining its sanctity is the duty of every Muslim. Identifying individuals who misuse mosques for mischief is the responsibility of every peaceful citizen.
She instructed Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to personally visit the imams.
Moreover, mosque construction and repair projects were included in the Annual Development Program. She directed that steps be taken to ensure the timely completion of mosque construction and repair projects.
It is worth noting that in 2017–18, the then Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had also announced a monthly stipend of 10,000 rupees for the imams of mosques in that province.
