Lahore: Former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique, has once again come forward in his son’s defense following criticism over his recent poor form.
In a social media statement, Azam Siddique pointed out that Babar Azam was dropped from the team despite being part of the ICC T20 Team of the Year and receiving the cap.
He expressed confidence that Babar would make a strong comeback through performances in the National T20 Cup and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
He urged former cricketers to choose their words carefully, stating, “Be mindful of your language, as you may not be able to handle a response. You belong to the past and will not play again.”
Addressing criticism about his frequent statements, Azam Siddique defended his role, saying, “People say the father speaks too much, but I am Babar’s first and last coach, his spokesperson, mentor, and above all, his well-wisher.”
He also took a swipe at critics, suggesting they review their own past performances: “Those making noise should check their own records on the PCB website. A word to the wise is enough.”
It is worth noting that Babar Azam has faced severe criticism for his poor form in the ICC Champions Trophy, as well as in recent series against New Zealand and Australia.
