LAHORE: Scorching heat continued to grip Punjab on Tuesday, with Lahore recording a sweltering 42°C, as persistent heatwave conditions prevailed across the province.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the current heatwave will intensify and continue through Tuesday evening and into Wednesday, driven by a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, which is expected to last until April 30.
According to the PMD, temperatures are expected to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal in central and upper Punjab, while southern districts may experience temperatures 5°C to 7°C above the seasonal average.
Lahore’s temperatures are forecast to range between 42°C to 44°C on Wednesday and 41°C to 43°C on Thursday.
In the last 24 hours, hot and dry weather dominated most districts of Punjab, with southern regions experiencing particularly extreme heat.
Rahim Yar Khan was the hottest city in Punjab, recording a high of 46°C, followed by Sargodha at 45°C and Dera Ghazi Khan at 44°C. Lahore recorded a high of 42°C with a morning humidity level of 37 percent.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad also saw intense heat, with the maximum temperature reaching 43°C and evening humidity recorded at 64 percent.
Health experts have urged citizens—especially children, women, and the elderly—to take precautions such as avoiding outdoor exposure during peak hours and staying well-hydrated.
