The casting couch remains a troubling reality in the film industry, with several high-profile incidents recently shedding light on its dark side. While many Bollywood actors have previously spoken about their experiences, Fatima Sana Shaikh’s revelations still come as a shock.
The actress, who made her debut alongside Aamir Khan in Dangal, opened up about her unsettling encounters in a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble.
Recalling one such experience, Fatima shared, “He asked me, ‘You will be ready to do everything, right?'” She explained that during an interaction with a casting agent for a South Indian film, she responded by emphasizing her dedication to hard work and commitment to the role.
However, sensing the agent’s inappropriate intentions, she decided to play along, saying, “I wanted to see how low he could get.”

In another incident in Hyderabad, Fatima hoped to secure a role in a South Indian film, which she believed could be a stepping stone to Bollywood. She recalled how producers would openly imply their expectations without stating them outright. “They wouldn’t say things directly but would hint at them in strange ways. They’d say things like, ‘You have to meet people’ or ‘You have to do this and that’—making their intentions clear.”
Despite these troubling encounters, Fatima acknowledged that not everyone in the industry behaves this way. She expressed sadness over the experiences of those who have suffered exploitation, stating that it is heartbreaking to hear the stories of what some actors and actresses have endured.
