The Sindh government announced a 15-day extension of summer leave for schools across the province on Tuesday, originally citing hot weather as the reason. However, new information reveals that the actual reason behind this extension is the delay in printing school books.
According to a report in a leading Urdu newspaper, the Sindh government has faced delays in printing and distributing syllabus books to schools, leading to academic disruptions for students.
The new academic year was scheduled to begin on August 1st, but printing of the books has not been completed, and districts have not received the distribution schedules. As a result, the government justified the extension of summer vacations under the guise of hot weather conditions.
The report underscores that this decision will affect both government and private school students in the province, despite the latter not being governed by the government syllabus.
The report stated that the cost of printing and distributing free school books has increased from Rs. 2 billion to Rs. 6 billion, and now the government is facing difficulty in meeting this cost.
