KARACHI: Hundreds of patients with symptoms of cough, fever, cold, flu, and chest congestion have been attending government hospitals in Karachi every day for the past few weeks. This viral infection is caused by adenoviruses, according to medical professionals.

Patients with ADV are visiting the hospital with symptoms of headache, chills, cough, cold, and fever, while the cases of diarrhoea have also increased.

Over a thousand individuals with these symptoms visit the government hospital every day, according to medical professionals. ADV and acute respiratory tract infections were reported in 782 instances at Dr. Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital on Saturday, and in 1,275 cases on Monday.

The US National Health Agency says the virus is usually spread from an infected person to others through close personal contact, such as “touching or shaking hands, the air by coughing and sneezing, touching an object or surface with adenoviruses on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands.”

Dr. Faisal Javed, General Physician of Jinah Hospital Karachi, said that this is not a new virus.

There is also a vaccine for it. It is possible to prevent it through influenza and corona vaccines. Patients with diabetes and asthma should be more careful because it is a viral infection and capable of being transmitted from one person to another. There is no need to panic or fear. Citizens should maintain social distance from and wear face masks.
