HYDERABAD: A video showing electricity poles standing in the middle of an under-construction road in Hyderabad has gone viral on social media, triggering criticism of the planning and engineering standards behind the development project.

The road connects Alamdaar Chowk to the Old National Highway. Footage circulating online shows electricity poles positioned along the middle of the road as construction and paving work continues, raising concerns among residents about traffic safety and the overall execution of the project.

The unusual sight has prompted questions about why the poles were not relocated before road construction began. Residents have expressed concern that the structures could pose a potential hazard to motorists and pedestrians if the road is used before the work is completed.

Social media users have also criticised the apparent lack of coordination between the departments responsible for road construction and electricity infrastructure. One user sarcastically remarked that the Sindh government should be consulted on how roads are built.

Another user argued that the electricity poles should have been removed before the road was constructed, warning that relocating them later could require cutting into the newly laid surface and potentially leaving potholes behind.

Residents have called on the relevant authorities to prioritise the relocation of existing infrastructure during development projects to minimise inconvenience and prevent potential accidents.

Hyderabad Mayor’s Spokesperson Clarifies
Following the public criticism, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Hyderabad clarified that the road project from Alamdaar Chowk to the Old National Highway is still under construction and has not yet been completed.

According to the spokesperson, a total of 162 electricity poles are scheduled to be relocated as part of the project. The spokesperson also stated that work on the relocation of 10 out of 27 electricity feeders had been completed.

The spokesperson urged residents not to use the road for travel until construction is complete and the road is formally inaugurated.

The clarification indicates that work on the project is still underway. However, the viral footage has drawn attention to the importance of coordinating road construction with the relocation of electricity infrastructure to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.
