KARACHI: Khurram Nisar, the man who allegedly killed a policeman in Defense on Monday night, has fled the country early on Tuesday.
The alleged murderer flew to Sweden via Istanbul, Turkey, travelling through a foreign airline. According to police the accused used his Swedish passport.
A policeman, identified as Abdul Rehman, was allegedly shot dead by a suspect, who police say is an expatriate, in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA) area during a heated exchange late on Monday night.
CCTV footage of the incident is making the rounds on Twitter, showing the suspect and the cop— both armed — disembarking from a black car and engaging in a heated argument. As the situation escalated, the suspect fired a couple of shots at the officer from point-blank range and fled, leaving the policeman dead on the spot.
According to DIG South Irfan Baloch, the suspect named Khurram Nisar is reportedly the son of a former deputy commissioner Nisar Ahmed. He said that police have recorded the statement of accused parents and raids are being conducted to arrest the culprit.
According to statements made to the media by police, the killed officer was on his motorcycle pursuing the suspicious vehicle. The pursuing officer was shot at by the driver, while the other officer luckily escaped the gunfire.
At the Darakhshan Police Station, a sub-inspector filed a report alleging the murder of a police officer.
According to officials, the alleged gunman is accused of murder, terrorism, and engaging in a shootout with the police.
A first information report (FIR) was registered against the suspect on the complaint of Clifton police station Superintendent Muhammad Shabbir Ahmed.
The FIR was registered under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code as well as Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
