Former minister and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid on Sunday said that “backdoor negotiations” with President Arif Alvi are underway.

In a media talk in Lahore today, he said that PTI chairman Imran Khan “has no interest” in the appointment of the army chief. “He just wants the selection to be made on merit.”

Rashid also met Imran at the former premier’s residence in the city earlier in the day. In a post-event interview with journalists, he stated that Imran had received medical advice not to travel and that the PTI leader’s life was still in danger.

Rashid, while talking about the long march, mentioned that people would enter the capital during the day.

“Free and fair elections are the only thing we demand.” he added.

Moreover, Imran Khan also met senior journalist Sami Ibrahim and other beat reporters in Lahore today to discuss the Haqeeqi Azadi struggle and future plans regarding the party’s long march.

Mussarat Jamshed Cheema, the spokesperson of the Punjab government, was also present on this occasion.

Meanwhile, Asad Umar said that economy has been ‘devastated’ after the ‘installation’ of PDM government.

Earlier, Taimur Jhagra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister, said that fresh elections were required to fix Pakistan’s economy.

“This is why the long march is important […] we need political stability to fix the economy so that a stable government can undertake fundamental reforms,” he said at a media talk in Peshawar today.
