LAHORE: Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan has rejected reports of joining Lahore Qalandars for the final of HBL Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) seven season.
Reports suggested that Rashid may fly to Lahore and appear in the final on Sunday but the 23-year-old cannot play as he is in Bangladesh for national duty. “It would’ve been great to be part of Lahore Qalandars and play alongside lads in the final,” he tweeted.
It would’ve been great to be part of @lahoreqalandars and play alongside lads in @thePSLt20 final.
I won’t be able to make it for the finals due to National Duty which is always a first priority.I wish my captain @iShaheenAfridi @sameenrana and team GOOD LUCK INSHALLAH ❤️ 🤲🏻— Rashid Khan (@rashidkhan_19) February 26, 2022
Rashid added that playing for Afghanistan is his first priority and wished Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi and his teammates best of luck for Sunday’s final against Multan Sultans.
It must be noted that the star player left Qalandars’ squad after playing nine matches where he took 13 wickets. Australia’s Fawad Khan is his replacement for the remainder of the competition but he only played the last league game against Peshawar Zalmi.
England all-rounder Samit Patel played the last two games for Qalandars and bowled in the middle-overs.
Lahore Qalandars remains as only one of the six HBL PSL franchises to have never lifted the domestic trophy. However, this will be the second successive appearance for Multan Sultans in the final having won last year.
The final between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans is set to light things on fire as two in-form teams take on each other in the final of the HBL PSL 7.
Both teams will be looking to finish a strong season with a win, which will mark a historic tournament win for both teams; Multan Sultans becoming the first team to win back-to-back tournaments or Lahore Qalandars lifting their first-ever PSL trophy.
