A significant traffic disruption occurred on the service road near Sea View in Karachi on Sunday morning after oil leaked from a damaged furnace oil pipeline, raising safety concerns in the area.
The leak, reported at 6 a.m., took place in a pipeline operated by Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) on Sea View Road, according to the South superintendent of police (SSP).
According to a report by Geo News on Sunday, furnace oil spilled onto the service road and seeped into a nearby residential project.
In response, refinery operations were halted, and oil pumping was suspended to prevent further leakage, sources within the refinery reported. Authorities acted quickly to contain the spill, and the pipeline was repaired within a few hours.
PRL Managing Director Zahid Mir stated that a team was dispatched to address the pipeline leak immediately after the spill was reported. PRL and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) personnel were deployed to the site to oversee repairs and ensure public safety.
Cleanup crews are working to remove the spilled oil from affected areas.
The incident caused significant traffic disruptions on Sea View Road, with temporary road closures and diversions in place to allow for repairs and prevent accidents. Commuters faced delays as sections of the road were cordoned off.
Zahid Mir confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the leak has been launched.
This incident follows a similar one that occurred in October, when a pipeline rupture on Khayaban-e-Sehar in DHA resulted in another furnace oil spill.
