Police in Faisalabad arrested 149 people, including 71 foreigners, mostly Chinese, in a raid on a scam call center, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency said Thursday.
Police have arrested 149 individuals during a raid on a fake call center, including 71 foreign nationals — the majority of whom are Chinese citizens. The information was released by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Thursday.
According to the NCCIA, the raid exposed a large call center involved in Ponzi schemes and fraudulent investment operations. The network was deceiving the public and illegally collecting substantial sums of money.
The NCCIA said that they had received intelligence regarding the network, which was operating in Faisalabad’s industrial hub.
The raid was conducted at the residence of former FESCO Chairman Tasheen Awan.
All arrested individuals are currently in custody, including 78 Pakistanis, 48 Chinese nationals, and citizens from Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Myanmar.
