Pakistani leading actress Sonya Hussyn has hit back at famous filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for schooling Sonya for her old comments about Mahira Khan and claimed that she never aspired to be Mahira.
Sharing the statement of Sharmeen on her Instagram story, Sonya Hussyn slammed Chinoy that pulling one woman down while putting another up in full view of the public talking and she is talking about upbringing?
Sonya indirectly hinting at Chinoy stated that the pandemic has given too much extra time to ‘some people’ to ‘diss’ others by taking things out of context. According to Hussyn, freedom of expression related to work is not disrespectful in any way. “Had I been asked which of the films I’d put opt for, I’d have chosen ‘Verna'”, she added.
“Ms Chinoy, your choice of words, tone, and tenor doesn’t behove Academy Awards Winner and lest you didn’t know, I have never aspired to be Mahira. She’sexcellent and amazing in her own right and I am on my own journey. Love,” Hussyn concluded her post.
It all started back in 2018 when Sonya appeared on Yasir Hussain’s talk show. When Yasir asked Sonya that if she was Mahira Khan, which film of hers she would have not done? The host gave her three options: ‘Verna’, ‘Raees’, and ‘Ho Mann Jahan’.
To which, the actress replied that she would not have done Raees as she has no interest in playing a sidekick character to Shah Rukh Khan. The comments recently came under the notice of the Oscar-winning director.
As mentioned earlier it happened in 2018, somehow, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy after three years decided to call out the actress over her choice of words and asserted that such remarks only reflect poorly on one’s upbringing. Sharmeen replied to Hussyn’s comments left a message under a post of a digital media news publication.
“Don’t think you’ll ever be Mahira Khan so you won’t ever get to say no,” Sharmeen said. “Don’t dis other women in the industry reflects poorly on you and your upbringing,” she further added.
