Microblogging platform X, commonly known as Twitter, is facing ongoing disruptions in Pakistan, persisting into Tuesday following a partial restoration of the social media app.
Accessibility to the platform has been down for the fourth consecutive day, prompting internet users in Pakistan to resort to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for access.
The Pakistani government has not issued any official statements regarding the disruptions. Meanwhile, NetBlocks, an internet monitoring organization, reported nationwide disruption to X amid protests related to allegations of poll rigging.
The internet watchdog highlighted the restrictions on the platform as the latest and longest in a series of nation-scale internet censorship measures imposed by authorities. Despite the silence from the government, reports suggest that the disruptions are having a significant impact on freedom of speech and causing financial setbacks for various companies.
Although X was briefly restored on Monday, it faced renewed restrictions. This cycle not only raises concerns about freedom of expression but also poses financial challenges for businesses relying on the platform. The situation underscores the ongoing tension between social media platforms and authorities, with users seeking alternative means such as VPNs to navigate the disruptions.
