In a tragic turn of events related to the Bahawalpur torture incident, the victim, who had been severely assaulted by a Railway police constable, was discovered deceased near Chani Goth Railway Station.
The distressing incident sparked widespread outrage online when a video clip of the police officer went viral on social media. The footage depicted him violently grabbing the woman by her hair and repeatedly slapping and punching her.
The victim, a resident of Chak 40 Mor in Jaranwala, allegedly succumbed to injuries inflicted by the policeman near Chani Goth Railway Station in Bahawalpur, as reported by the police on Monday.
Earlier, the railway police officer had been apprehended during Eid holidays. However, he was released on bail by a local court in Hyderabad on the same day, upon posting a surety bond of Rs35,000.
Just a day after the cop’s release on bail, the woman’s lifeless body was discovered in Bahawalpur.
The victim’s brother disclosed that his sister worked at a salon in Karachi and was en route to Jaranwala to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. He demanded a thorough investigation into his sister’s demise.
Initial reports suggested that the constable had approached the woman to inspect her ticket upon learning that she was traveling without proper authorization. However, the woman refuted the allegation of traveling without a ticket, which purportedly triggered the policeman’s aggressive response in the presence of her children.
Following the altercation, the policeman accused the woman of kidnapping the children. Nevertheless, he later confessed to assaulting her after she allegedly behaved rudely towards him.
