One of the most prominent figures in Sharif family, Maryam Nawaz, arrived in London 5 days back with media reports suggesting that she, accompanying her father, would return home on the 6th of next month.
Apparently, it seems that through the amendments in the NAB Ordinance, the federal government has already paved the way for Nawaz Sharif to return to Pakistan, exactly the way Ishaq Dar returned home using the plane of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. History it seems can now be repeated in the case of Maryam Nawaz and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, if they choose to return back home.
However, this matter is not as simple as it seems, because Nawaz Sharif, who left for London in utmost peace and contentment under the pretext of illness and, for the greater annoyance of some former PTI ministers, made viral some of his London pictures from time to time, his departure didn’t happen in vain, but in fact, the possibility of a deal behind the scene cannot be ruled out.
Similarly, when Nawaz Sharif is seen flexing his muscles to make his return to Pakistan, the deal which he had struck with some elements seems to be heading for a collapse, because, as per the actually reported deal, he is not supposed to return home, or at least stage a prolonged illness for more or less 3 years.
If the above assumptions are correct, then we need to take into account the demand made by PTI leader and former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry 2 days ago, in which he asked Nawaz Sharif to narrate the details of NRO 2022 before the nation. After all, they are politicians, we have no objection if they want to return home.
Fawad Chaudhry also said that Nawaz Sharif should tell the nation as to under which deal he was returning home, adding that “we are ready to talk to the government and the establishment. We want the general elections to be held without any problems.”
So, if the seemingly impossible return of Nawaz Sharif becomes possible after three years time, as per Fawad Chaudhry, it would be the result of NRO 2022, and if Nawaz Sharif returns to the country, the in the opinion of the writer, there must not be any harm in the return of Maryam Nawaz as well.
In the end, some key questions can be raised about the systems of dispensing justice and political conduct in the country, most important of which could the one that, if the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif was correct, and all the allegations of corruption against him were true, then why was he not convicted and sent to prison? And, if his return to Pakistan and paving the way for him to become Prime Minister yet again is correct, then why a three-time elected Prime Minister was made to stay out of the country for so long?
