Aaron Taylor-Johnson is reportedly poised to step into the iconic role of James Bond in the espionage universe. The 33-year-old actor is said to be deliberating over the offer to become the new secret agent following Daniel Craig’s departure from the franchise in 2021, as per The Sun.
If Taylor-Johnson accepts the role, he will join the esteemed ranks of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig who have previously portrayed the character.
The production company behind the Bond series is reportedly confident that Taylor-Johnson, known for his role in “Kick-Ass,” will ultimately agree to the terms and sign on.
The latest James Bond installment, featuring Craig, hit screens in 2021, but subsequent films in the series have faced delays due to Hollywood strikes the following year.
Who else is vying to be the next James Bond?
As speculation mounts over who will assume the mantle of 007, several names have surfaced. Henry Cavill, Richard Madden, and James Norton have all been mentioned as contenders, alongside actors such as Regé-Jean Page, recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, and the beloved Idris Elba.
Elba, however, ruled himself out long ago, citing “disgusting” racial comments as a deterrent. Murphy’s captivating performance in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” has generated buzz, although some suggest he might excel in a villainous role instead.
James Norton, a favorite among bookmakers, gained attention for his recent stage appearance in “A Little Life” and his role in the 2019 film “Little Women.” While he addressed Bond rumors in 2018, Norton dismissed them as flattering but speculative, emphasizing that such talk remains just speculation.
