The milk mafia in Karachi has launched a campaign to coerce the Commissioner by creating an artificial milk shortage to push for a staggering Rs100 per liter price hike.
According to reliable sources, dairy farmers have vehemently opposed a proposed increase of Rs 20 per liter in milk prices and have deliberately curtailed milk production to compel the Commissioner of Karachi to approve the exorbitant Rs100 per liter price hike.
The deliberate reduction in milk production has resulted in shortages across various areas of the port city, exacerbating the situation as soaring temperatures lead to heightened demand for milk, yogurt, and lassi.
Sources reveal that the mafia had directly petitioned Commissioner Hassan Naqvi to endorse the steep Rs100 per liter price hike. However, Commissioner Naqvi rejected this demand and instead convened a committee to thoroughly assess the situation and present recommendations on milk pricing. Despite the committee’s proposal of a Rs20 per liter increase, dairy farmers vehemently rejected the suggestion.
In a bid to exert pressure, dairy farmers artificially created a milk shortage within the city by significantly reducing production. Before this artificial scarcity, Karachi’s daily milk production stood at 5 million liters. However, as a result of the deliberate reduction, daily production has plummeted to 3 million liters.
