The wait is over..! Google has officially begun rolling out the stable Android 17 update but there’s a caveat. Right now, it’s only for Pixel smartphones.
Google has introduced a range of new features focused on multitasking, gaming, screen sharing, and privacy. The update is currently available for Pixel 6 and newer devices, while select advanced Android phones are expected to receive Gemini Intelligence features later this summer.
Enhanced Multitasking with App Bubbles
The thing that catches one’s eye is Bubbles app, one of the standout additions in Android 17, a feature that allows users to transform any app into a floating window that remains accessible over other applications. For foldable devices and tablets, Google is also introducing a dedicated bubble bar, making it easier to manage multiple apps simultaneously.
New Gaming Experience for Foldables
Android 17 brings improvements tailored for foldable devices. A new 50/50 gaming layout enables users to view gameplay on one half of the screen while using a dynamic virtual gamepad on the other. Google says the feature will become available in the coming months.
Screen Reactions
The update introduces Screen Reactions, allowing users to record their on-screen activity while simultaneously capturing reactions through the front-facing camera.
But that’s not it, Android 17 also strengthens privacy protections with a one-time precise location option, improved approximate location accuracy, and redesigned location permission controls.
