KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that Karachi has tremendous potential to attract investment and establish new industries due to its strategic geographical location, seaports and existing industrial infrastructure.
Addressing the pre-launch ceremony of Marble City Karachi, Memon said industrialists operating businesses in different parts of the country were increasingly showing interest in investing in Karachi and relocating their industrial units to the city.
He highlighted the importance of Karachi’s ports, saying they provide a vital gateway for locally manufactured goods as well as products transported from other parts of Pakistan to reach international markets.
Memon acknowledged that industrial activities in Karachi had suffered in the past due to challenging conditions. However, he said the Sindh government was taking steps to improve the business environment, revive industrial activity and restore investors’ confidence.
Shahrah-e-Bhutto to Improve Connectivity
The provincial minister described Shahrah-e-Bhutto as a significant infrastructure project for Karachi, saying it would improve connectivity to the city’s ports and industrial zones.
He also revealed that a project to construct an elevated road connecting Karachi Port with Shahrah-e-Bhutto was under consideration. Once completed, the proposed route is expected to reduce travel time from 45 minutes to approximately 12 minutes.
According to Memon, several major development projects have already been completed in Karachi, while work on various other initiatives is underway. He said the provincial government’s objective was to restore Karachi’s position as a modern, internationally recognised city and a major business hub.
Referring to Karachi’s former international standing, Memon said the city was once widely recognised around the world for its educational institutions, tourism and business opportunities.
He expressed confidence that continued development efforts would help revive Karachi’s former prominence and strengthen its position as an important centre for economic activity and investment.
