The Pakistan Origin Card (POC) program, administered by NADRA, is designed to help eligible foreigners reconnect with their Pakistani heritage while offering several exclusive benefits.
The POC allows holders multiple visa-free entries into Pakistan, indefinite stay without police reporting, and the right to own and manage property. Additionally, cardholders can open bank accounts, enjoy swift immigration clearance, and use the card as proof of identity instead of a National Identity Card. It also makes them eligible for employment in Pakistan.
The Smart POC variant is specifically for individuals who or whose parents have renounced Pakistani citizenship and now hold nationality in countries without dual nationality agreements with Pakistan. Foreign spouses of Pakistani citizens also qualify. Eligibility extends to former Pakistani nationals, foreign nationals with Pakistani lineage, or those married to Pakistani or former Pakistani citizens. However, citizens of India, Israel, Taiwan, unrecognized countries, or enemy states are excluded from the program.
Pakistan maintains dual nationality agreements with 21 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Australia, among others. The Smart POC application can be made via the Pak ID Mobile App under categories such as new applications, renewals, modifications, and cancellations.
This program is an important step for overseas Pakistanis and their families to stay connected and benefit from their roots without cumbersome formalities.
