ISTANBUL: A Turkish social media influencer, who has been telling the world about Turkey and its culture in Pakistan’s Urdu tongue, expressed that she is working to build stronger cultural bonds between both countries.

Turkish social media maven Turkan Atay, who just in nine months received a quarter-million subscribers on her YouTube channel, started making videos on Turkish culture, customs, and traditions in Urdu after graduating from Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan.

“I knew nothing about Pakistan. I got my suitcase and left Turkey,” she said. “At first, it was terrible. I cried and told my mom I wanted to come home. Weddings, hospitality for guests, lifestyle – all of these are very different,” Atay said. However, as time passed, she started liking the country better, its hospitality as well as cuisine.

“I’ve always felt the advantage of being a Turk,” she said. “When you go to Pakistan and say that you’re Turkish, they really embrace you … if I get a chance I’ll go to Pakistan again,” she shared.
