ISLAMABAD: The process of registration of several shopkeepers across the country has started today under the federal government’s ‘Tajir Dost’ Scheme, which aims to increase revenue by bringing wholesalers, dealers, and retailers into the tax net.
According to the details, initially, the action started to bring the shopkeepers into the tax net in 6 major cities of the country including Rawalpindi, and Islamabad. The registration process under the Trader Friendly Scheme will continue from today till April 30.
According to the decision of the government, tax collection from traders will start in July. Under the trader-friendly scheme, there will be the registration of vegetable, fruit, meat, medical, grocery, cosmetics, medical, hardware, jewelers, and furniture besides renovation of showrooms.
The scheme will not apply to international or national businesses operating in more than one city. The scheme aims to bring shopkeepers, dealers, wholesalers, and retailers into the tax net, which is expected to generate billions in tax revenue.
It should be noted that the government is desirous of getting a long-term program from the IMF, for which the vendors will be brought into the tax net under the proposed reforms of the IMF, while the increase in the prices of essential commodities is also a link in the same chain.
