BRISBANE: Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by three runs in the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup in Gabba, Brisbane, in what appeared to be a heart-stopping thriller.
Defending a target of 151 runs, Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 147 for eight in 19.5 overs. Sean Williams played a knock of 64 runs off 42 balls but failed to take his side past the finish line.
Bangladesh had already celebrated a narrow win and had walked off the field. On replays checking for the stumping of Blessing Muzarabani off Mosaddek Hossain, wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan was seen to have collected the ball before it had passed the stumps, forcing 3rd umpire Chris Gaffaney to call, what would have been the last ball of the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe game, a no-ball.
From Bangladesh side, Taskin Ahmed took three wickets, Mosaddek Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman bagged two-wicket hauls
Earlier, Najmul Hosseil Shanto’s maiden T20I fifty helped Bangladesh to reach a competitive 150/7 in 20 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe were 147 for 8.
