Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” delivered a record-breaking debut, earning $927 million at the global box office, including $355 million from the United States and Canada.
The film registered the second-highest opening weekend in history, both domestically and worldwide, trailing only 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
The latest installment marks Tom Holland’s fourth appearance as Spider-Man, following Peter Parker as he battles crime in a world that no longer remembers his identity.
Zendaya reprises her role as MJ, with the story focusing on Parker’s loneliness and search for meaningful human connection.
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman said the film’s central theme of friendship and connection has resonated with audiences across all age groups.
Internationally, the movie collected $572 million, led by China, where it earned $121 million during its opening weekend.
According to Rentrak, the film recorded the biggest domestic opening since the COVID-19 pandemic and the second-largest ever.
With strong reviews, including a 90% critics’ score and 98% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the Spider-Man franchise is now approaching $10 billion in worldwide theatrical box office revenue.
