Due to the protest of a religious group, some of the roads that were closed in the federal capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been reopened.
According to details, in view of the protest, containers are still placed on the highways of the capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, considering the public’s difficulties, some important roads of the twin cities have been partially opened.
Yesterday, at various locations in the twin cities, incidents of heated arguments between citizens and police personnel also occurred. Ambulances were stuck on the roads, and families of patients kept requesting passage. A mother kept crying and pleading for her child but could not reach the hospital, while an elderly patient was given an IV drip inside the ambulance due to deteriorating condition, as claimed in a report.
In Rawalpindi, routes leading to residential areas inside the city have been opened for traffic, while barriers have also been removed from the streets connected to Murree Road. The route connecting Islamabad Expressway and Ninth Avenue to Double Road has also been partially opened for traffic; however, the IGP Road and the Faizabad Interchange connecting Rawalpindi and Islamabad remain sealed.
According to the Motorway Police, the M2 Motorway from Lahore to Islamabad has been opened for traffic, and movement is continuing as usual. Traffic Police, issuing a new route plan, stated that out of 43 locations in Rawalpindi, 6 have been fully opened and 35 partially opened.
According to the report, Metro Bus Service and local transport in the twin cities are still suspended, resulting in increased crowding of passengers at the railway station.
