Ajrak Plate Policy Sparks Controversy as Government Blocks Free Number Plate Initiative (Provided)

The Sindh government’s Ajrak number plate policy has become a nuisance for motorists in Karachi. When someone attempts to alleviate the public’s sufferings, the government intervenes to stop them — as evidenced by the recent crackdown on social activists distributing free number plates in the port city.

The Excise Department raided the Youth Foundation in North Karachi Sector 5-L, arresting several young individuals involved in the distribution and detaining them at Bilal Colony Police Station.”

According to details, the Excise Department conducted a raid in North Karachi Sector 5-L, targeting the Youth Foundation’s initiative to distribute free number plates to the public. During the operation, the Excise Police arrested several young men and transferred them to Bilal Colony Police Station.

The Chairman of the Youth Foundation, Faizan Hussain, said that they were providing free number plates to assist citizens, and this was in no way illegal.

He said that number plates are being sold across the city, but if they are offering a service to citizens at no cost, declaring it a crime is unjust.

Faizan Hussain also led a protest along with citizens against what he called an unwarranted action by the Excise Department and announced that they would not remain silent on the matter.

The Chairman stated, “We are serving the people, not committing a crime. If the government itself is unable to provide such facilities to citizens, then such initiatives should be encouraged, not obstructed.”

It should be noted that the Sindh government’s policy of Ajrak number plate has already been hallenged in the high court.
