ISLAMABAD: Slain journalist Arshad Sharif’s mother Friday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the postmortem report of his son.
Riffat Ara Alvi, Arshad’s mother, filed a petition with the court through her attorney Barrister Shoaib Razzaq, naming the Federation of Pakistan through the office of the President of Pakistan, the Interior Ministry through the office of the Secretary of the Interior, and the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) through the office of its Joint Executive Director and postmortem member as respondents.
She moved the court against the delay in the provision of the postmortem report of his son and said that the postmortem report was sought from the administration on November 3 by the family’s focal person but they were told by the administration that they did not have the report as it was with the police.
Arshad’s mother also stated in the petition that Police and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)’ management refused to provide her the report.
She urged that they be kept updated at all times to guarantee transparency and voiced her concern that the report might be changed in a way that would mislead the facts. According to the petitioner, the family is being kept in the dark, and she was concerned that the postmortem report would be altered.
She went on to say that throughout this turbulent time, the martyr’s family members are being dragged and humiliated from one department to another. The mother insisted that she was now worried and afraid that the original and final autopsy reports would be changed or adjusted to distort the truth about what had actually occurred to her sacrificed son.
She encouraged the IHC to offer directions to the respondents so that they could ensure that the entire procedure was transparent and free from outside interference or coercion.
The mother asked the court to allow the petitioner’s representation to be intimately involved in the entire process and briefed by the pertinent authorities.
