KARACHI: Expanding the scope of the investigation, Sindh Local Government Board has summoned 22 more officers of Sindh Building Control Authority for an investigation into illegal constructions.
According to details, notices have been issued to several officers in this regard. The local government board had earlier suspended 28 SBCA officers over involvement in illegal construction.
The summoned officers include SBCA Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, Building Inspectors, and clerks. The officers have been directed to appear before the board for recording their statements from July 17 to 22.
The notifications informed that the Sindh Local Government Board will investigate illegal constructions from January 1, 2017, to date. Sources said that if there will be a transparent investigation, strict action is likely to be taken against many guilty officers.
Earlier in March, the Sindh government suspended 28 employees of the Sindh Building Control Authority over corruption charges. The suspension had been confirmed by a notification issued by Sindh Local Government Secretary Rohsan Ali Shaikh. The notification states that the SBCA officers and officials had been suspended on the charges of authorising illegal constructions in Karachi.
