The Sindh cabinet has approved the release of Rs964.4 million for the purchase of public transport buses for Karachi.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved a comprehensive financial and development package covering public transport, policing, wheat price relief, Thar coal connectivity projects, internal audit reforms, social protection, and the establishment of an IT tower in the city.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi and was attended by provincial ministers, advisers, special assistants, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, and other relevant officials. The cabinet also ratified the proceedings of the Cabinet Committee on Finance presented by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
Among the key approvals, the cabinet sanctioned Rs964.4 million for the purchase and operation of public transport buses in Karachi under a non-ADP scheme; Rs1 billion for the production of films, dramas, and documentary programs for public awareness, and Rs5.84 billion for the purchase of arms and ammunition to strengthen the capacity of the Sindh Police.
The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, also decided to release Rs5.6 billion for the Thar coal railway line.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that under the project, a 105-kilometre-long railway line would be laid from Islamkot to Chhor. The railway line will be used to transport coal from Thar to Karachi and other parts of the country.
The railway line is being constructed on a 50-50 cost-sharing basis between the Sindh government and the Ministry of Railways.
