KARACHI: A severe public health crisis has triggered alarms across the country, particularly in Sindh, following a shocking revelation by the Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory, Karachi. The laboratory has officially declared samples of medical syringes circulating in the market as substandard, raising an immediate and critical threat of an outbreak of blood-borne diseases, including HIV and Hepatitis.
Adnan Rizvi, Director of the Sindh Drug Testing Lab, Karachi, officially released the Auto-Disability (AD) test reports today. According to the findings, market samples of 3 ml and 5 ml syringes were gathered by drug inspectors from various commercial hubs across Karachi for stringent quality testing.
The lab’s technical analysis revealed that six major brands manufactured by various companies failed to meet national quality benchmarks. Crucially, the mandatory ‘Auto-Disability’ and ‘Reuse Prevention’ features—designed to mechanically lock the syringe after a single injection to prevent multi-patient reuse—were found to be entirely non-functional.
Director Adnan Rizvi stated, “The implicated companies are manufacturing these faulty syringes and distributing them on a massive scale across the country. Their failure to comply with the auto-disable standard poses a direct, life-threatening risk to millions of citizens.”
Taking immediate administrative action, the Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has forwarded the comprehensive forensic report to the relevant Drug Inspectors and the Secretary of the Quality Control Board, Karachi, for swift legal prosecution.
Prior to this disclosure, drug inspectors had confiscated samples from over 30 different commercial brands during routine market surveillance. Following the laboratory’s definitive failure report on these six specific brands, authorities are preparing to launch massive, coordinated raids on medical stores, pharmacies, and wholesale distribution networks to seize the lethal stocks immediately.
