ISLAMABAD: Mishaal Malik, wife of jailed Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, staged a sit‑in outside the Children’s Ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after being stopped from entering the premises of PIMS fire tragedy with her daughter.

Protest Over PIMS Fire Tragedy

Speaking to reporters, Mishaal Malik said the entire nation’s heart was bleeding over the PIMS tragedy in which 14 newborns officially lost their lives. She accused the hospital administration of negligence and claimed that she and her daughter were denied entry into the ward despite repeated requests.

PIMS Fire: Allegations of Negligence

Mishaal recalled that in 2005, her father was allegedly given the wrong medicine at PIMS, arguing that the recent tragedy was another example of systemic negligence. “This is human failure for which the government is responsible,” she said, demanding immediate accountability.

Mishaal Calls for Minister’s Resignation

The Hurriyat leader’s wife further demanded that the Federal Health Minister resign over PIMS fire tragedy, saying the tragedy had exposed serious lapses in hospital management and safety protocols.

Background

The protest comes amid heightened scrutiny of PIMS following the August 26 fire in the Mother and Child Health nursery ward.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has suspended the then Health Secretary and ordered a high‑level inquiry. Committees are currently reviewing CCTV footage, duty rosters, and staff statements to determine responsibility for the incident.
