Sheikh Rasheed to present railway audit report before SC today

ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Federal Railways Minister Sheik Rasheed said that he will appear before the Supreme Court in a case involving railway damages.
While talking to the media, he said: “Will appear before the top court and present the railway audit report on Monday.” Sheik Rasheed said he would assure Justice Gulzar Ahmed chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), that railway ministry in Pakistan is not corrupt. He said the ministry has succeeded in bringing down Rs6 billion from the institute deficit.

Sheik Rasheed further said Pakistan Railway’s deficit over the next five years would be resolved. He said by restarting 24 new trains, the ministry has raised revenues upwards of Rs10 billion.
The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Monday ordered Railway Minister Sheik Rasheed Ahmad, the department’s chief executive and secretary to appear in person to defend their positions in a railway failure case.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, a judge of the bench, observed that the department has been raking in billions of damages, which is clear from its audit report. While the chief justice of Pakistan stated that “No state institution is as full of corruption as railways.”
