ISLAMABAD: Joint Opposition’s candidate and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday filed their nomination papers to contest the election for the slot of prime minister.
The NA session to elect the new leader of the House will convene at 2 pm tomorrow.
Shahbaz Sharif, accompanied by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Syed Naveed Qamar, Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Mohsin Dawar, and others, submitted his nomination papers to the NA secretariat. He is the joint Opposition’s candidate for Prime Minister.
The prime minister’s slot fell vacant after Imran Khan was ousted through a no-confidence vote after the National Assembly (NA) debated on the matter for more than 12 hours and the political situation in the country took a critical turn.
Talking to journalists after submitting his nomination papers, Shahbaz Sharif said that national harmony will be his top priority. “People will be provided relief after boosting the economy,” he added.
The PML-N leader said that he will form a new cabinet after consultation with Opposition leaders. He said they will kick off a new era and will promote a culture of mutual respect in the country.
The nomination papers for the prime minister’s slot from PTI were received by Maleeka Bokhari and Amir Dogar.
The decision to nominate Shah Mahmood Qureshi as the candidate for the prime ministerial slot from PTI was taken by a meeting of the party’s core committee headed by Imran Khan.
