Shane Warne auctions baggy green for bush fire victims

SYDNEY: Legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne on Monday has announced to auction his Baggy Green to raise money for the victims of the devastating bushfires in Australia.

Warne, Australia’s most prolific Test wicket-taker and arguably the greatest spin bowler ever, made the announcement at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the Australia-New Zealand third test.

Shane Warne said, “The effect on so many families of these horrific fires is unbearable and has touched us all.” He added, “I hope my baggy green will be able to raise any valuable funds to help all those people who are in urgently need.”

The 50-year-old  joins a group of cricketers raising money to a cause close to the hearts of millions of Australians during an ongoing bushfire disaster, with Big Bash League players donating money on every six hit and wickets lost, as well as Australia’s Test bowlers also following the trend.

It is difficult to estimate just how much Warne’s Baggy Green would receive, though one of the caps of Sir Donald Bradman won a whopping $425,000 when auctioned for charity in 2003.
