Serious discrepancies have reportedly emerged in the initial post-mortem report of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali, raising questions over the findings and creating concerns about their possible impact on the ongoing investigation.
According to the preliminary report, Mir Raza’s body was between 24 and 36 hours old at the time of examination. The report noted that the size of the bullet entry wound was larger, while the exit wound was smaller.
Local media reports citing sources linked to the Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) said marks visible in photographs suggest that the bullet may have been fired from the back and exited from the front. The images reportedly showed a smaller wound mark on the back and a larger mark on the chest.
The photographs also showed signs of swelling on the body and severe damage to the face. Report said a detailed examination of the head could have helped determine the cause of the facial injuries.
The images also showed that the fingers of the deceased’s left hand appeared clenched and entangled with broken grass. Suspicious marks were also reportedly found on the right hand, while another injury was visible under the chin.
Meanwhile, investigators have obtained CCTV footage from around 8am on July 29. The footage shows a garbage collector carrying a bag arriving at the scene and leaving a few minutes later. Investigators suspect the person may have taken the weapon from the site.
Mir Raza Ali’s body was found after 11am on July 29.
Police have also obtained data from Mir Raza’s mobile phone and are examining his final contacts, messages, and financial transactions.
According to investigators, the mobile data revealed that on the night of July 28, Mir Raza sent a message to a friend requesting a loan of Rs30 million (Rs3 crore). Officials said he described himself as being in difficulty and expressed an urgent need for financial assistance.
Investigators also found that Mir Raza’s fiancée sent him several messages on the night of the incident, but he did not respond.
Police sources said initial evidence suggests that Mir Raza owed money to several individuals. As part of the probe, authorities have taken 18 people linked to his financial dealings into custody for questioning.
Officials said statements from at least 15 people, including an online taxi driver, have also been recorded.
Police said investigations revealed that eight individuals, including two brothers, allegedly owed money to Mir Raza. Authorities said the two brothers owed amounts worth millions of rupees, while other individuals had outstanding payments in the hundreds of thousands.
The police are continuing to investigate all financial links and other possible aspects of the case.
