ISLAMABAD: Senate members have demanded public execution of the perpetrators of sexual assault.

The Senate session began under the chairmanship of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani. The issue of the motorway rape incident was discussed in the meeting.

PML-N leader Pervez Rashid the one asking why the woman left the house should be fired. He said that if a minister says that nothing happened on the motorway then the Chief Minister of Punjab is responsible for this incident.

The demand for public execution was also supported by most government members, but PPP members Sherry Rehman and Raza Rabbani opposed the demand. The opposition also demanded the removal of CCPO Lahore.

PPP leader Senator Sherry Rehman said that the Lahore incident should not be called a tragedy as it was not an accident but a deliberate one. The whole of Pakistan is against the CCPO but the government is defending it.

He said that women and children are not safe in the ‘Naya Pakistan’ and those who looted honors roamed openly. Senator Raza Rabbani said that if you want to be hanged in public, read Article 12 of the Constitution. Zia-ul-Haq hanged in public. Did gang rape end? he asked.

He said that the solution to sexual abuse is the rule of law and not public execution. If the prosecution, the evidence, and the witness are strong, the punishment will be meted out. “Justice is possible only when there is no room for redemption through bribery, but where there is the law for the poor and needy, it is difficult to get justice, he added.
