RAWALPINDI: The head of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid has said that even the Britishers did not impose any ban on Minar-e-Pakistan in 1940, but their agents had blocked all roads and ways leading to the Jalsa venue (of PTI) causing inconvenience for people. He added that despite these restrictions, people walked for miles to reach the spot of the public gathering.

His comments came after PTI’s mammoth public gathering that took place last night with tens of thousands of people from all walks of life showed up to listen to former premier Imran Khan. People posted pictures and videos on social media showing road blockades, as well as screen shots of Google Map showing restrictions placed across all of Lahore.

Sheikh Rashid speaking about the current economic crisis in Pakistan, said that the poor were suffering and standing in queues for flour, which had actually become a “line of death”. He further criticized those who have looted national wealth and stashed it abroad, saying that the fight is not against the military establishment but against them.

The AML Chief said that those who had no idea about the freedom struggle of Occupied Kashmir were banning Gilgit-Baltistan police from leaving the province, and that the threat alerts were issued, arrests made, and internet snapped to thwart the Minar-e-Pakistan gathering. He claimed that the real fear is the rising popularity of Prime Minister Imran Khan, and those who think they can fix everything are taking the country towards civil war.

Rashid also highlighted the economic crisis in Pakistan, stating that neither the IMF nor the Geneva Donors conference is giving anything to the country. He added that Saudi Arabia terminated the oil facility on deferred payment within eight months, and the UAE is not paying any heed to Pakistan.

He said the Supreme Court will decide if the country will go along with the Constitution or the mafia, and that he would be appearing in the SC tomorrow (Monday).
