KARACHI: Dairy Farms’ mafia has become uncontrollable as it has increased the price of milk by 20 rupees per litre overnight in Karachi after which the new price of milk has reached 200 rupees per litre in the city.
Justifying the increase in production cost, the dairy farms mafia has increased the prices of milk and yoghurt by Rs20 per kg, after which curd is being sold for Rs300 and milk for Rs200. In September too, the price of milk was increased by Rs 20 per litre by the dairy farmers.
On one hand, the official price of milk in the city is Rs 120 per litre, while on the other hand, the city administration has completely failed to control the milk prices and seems to be a silent spectator in front of the dairy farmers.
MM News spoke to the shopkeepers regarding the sudden increase in the price of milk, and one of the shopkeepers said that they are also facing a lot of problems because customers tell them that we are increasing the price even though our own margin is low.
The shopkeeper said that when milk was being sold at Rs180per litre, they were getting Rs165 per litre, now when milk is being sold at Rs 200 per litre, they are buying the same at Rs 185 per litre from the farms.
Another shopkeeper told MM News that the union of dairy farms gives them the list of milk prices.
The customers who come to buy milk were very disappointed when they heard about the increase in the price of milk from the shopkeeper.
Regarding the increase in price, the people say that milk is also becoming out of reach, earlier we used to cry for vegetables, but now we will cry for milk, only God can convince the government to have mercy on the people.
The citizens fed up with inflation are demanding the administration to immediately crack down on the dairy farmer and ensure the sale of milk at the official price.
