Ramazan expected to kick off on 24 April in UAE

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirate’s committee to sight the Ramazan moon has called a meeting and it is expected that the month of fasting will kick off on 24 April.

According to a local daily, “The Ramadan moon-sighting committee will meet virtually on Thursday after the Maghreb prayer under the chairmanship of Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, the Minister of Justice.”

Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court had ordered all Muslims across the country to sight the moon of Ramazan on Thursday evening.

Saudi King had allowed all the citizens for performing Taraweeh after imposing a ban on prayers within the premises of mosques due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to details, the Two Holy Mosques Custodian King Salman bin Abdulaziz recently approved performing Taraweeh and limiting the number of Rakat to ten.

Meanwhile in Pakistan, the Ministry of the Religious Affairs spokesperson has said that the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Thursday evening to sight the Ramazan moon.

The spokesperson said that the meeting scheduled to be held at the Met Office in Karachi with Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman in the chair.

The spokesperson added that the meetings of the zonal committees will take place at the provincial headquarters on Thursday. He said in Islamabad’s zonal committee will hold a meeting at the Kohsar complex.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had said that the Ramazan moon will be sighted on April 24 as per the lunar calendar, marking the first fast of the holy month of Ramazan on April 25.
