The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has unveiled plans for a nationwide protest movement beginning on August 5, saying the campaign will seek the release of party founder Imran Khan and push for the acceptance of its broader political demands.
The decision was made during a PTI parliamentary party meeting at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, chaired by interim chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Party lawmakers discussed parliamentary affairs and approved plans for a campaign that will include public rallies, demonstrations, and a long march.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party would also consult Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas before finalising the protest strategy.
Addressing a press conference, Barrister Gohar said the meeting also reviewed the health of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. He alleged that Khan was being denied justice and called for an end to oppression and injustice.
Meanwhile, PTI rejected reports claiming it had ended its boycott of parliamentary standing committees. Chief Whip Malik Amir said the boycott remains in force under Imran Khan’s instructions.
