KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to hold a public rally in Karachi on Sunday, April 17, as part of protest against the ouster of Imran Khan’s government.
“Karachi get ready, Khan is coming, Sunday, 17th April Mazar-e-Quaid,” PTI leader Asad Umar said in a tweet. “Insha Allah Pakistan will see Karachi stands with its leader Imran Khan for an independent Pakistan”.
Former prime minister Imran Khan has announced to start a protest campaign against the ‘foreign elements’ allegedly involved in the ouster of his government.
In response, PTI workers and workers and sympathisers staged protest rallies on Sunday across the country. The demonstrations were held in cities and town across the country including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Sukkur, Jhang, Okara, and other cities.
One of the biggest protest rallies was held in Karachi where a large number of PTI supporters, including women and children, carried placards inscribed with pro-Imran Khan slogans, gathered on the Rashid Minhas Road near Dalmia.
They chanted slogans in favour of Imran Khan and against his opponents. The protesters also played party songs and traffic was heavily disrupted. A heavy contingent of the law enforcement agencies, including Rangers and police, were present at the protest sit.
PTI activists also took to streets in Lahore and demonstrated against the ouster of Imran Khan from the Prime Minister’s office. PTI workers gathered at Lalak Jan Chowk, where they staged a demonstration and vowed to stand by Imran Khan.
In Islamabad, PTI supporters assembled at Zero Point, from where the protest rally set out. PTI supporters were carrying banners and chanting slogans in favour of Imran Khan. The traffic came to a standstill on the Srinagar Highway due to the rally.
A large protest gathering in Rawalpindi was held at the Lal Haweli, where Sheikh Rashid Ahmed addressed party supporters. He lashed out at PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and announced to fill jails in protest. PTI workers staged rallies in Sukkur, Khairpur and other parts of Sindh where local leaders said Imran Khan will once again form the government with the two-third majority
PTI KP spokesperson MPA Zahir Shah Toru said Imran Khan would start his journey from Peshawar on Tuesday. He said Imran Khan would hold public meetings in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi and the party had mobilised its organisations to start making preparations for the public meetings.
