The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced free calling on toll-free numbers (0800-XXXXX) for all mobile users across the country. Previously, this facility was available only to fixed-line users.
In a statement issued by the PTA, it was said that mobile users were earlier charged standard call rates when dialling toll-free numbers.
The authority stated that the matter was taken up to protect consumer interests and ensure fair access to telecom services, following which necessary steps were taken to make calls to toll-free numbers free for all users.
The PTA further said that consultations were held with all relevant stakeholders, including PTCL, NTC, local loop operators and cellular mobile operators.
After detailed discussions and mutual agreement, it was decided that calls to local loop (LL) toll-free numbers would be free of charge for all consumers.
The statement added that the PTA remains committed to ensuring equal access to telecom services, safeguarding consumer rights, and promoting a user-friendly and efficient telecommunications environment in Pakistan.
