KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) began the week on a weak note Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index sliding over 1 percent in early trade as selling pressure outweighed last week’s optimism.
At 9:40am, the KSE-100 stood at 180,432 points, down 1,809 points (-1.00%). Broader indices also mirrored the decline: the All-Share Index shed 1,260 points (-1.15%), while the KSE-30 and KMI-30 dropped by 552 points (-1.03%) and 2,558 points (-1.01%) respectively. The Banking Index fell 540 points (-1.06%), reflecting sector-wide weakness.
Market breadth was negative, with 322 stocks declining against 55 advancing, while 188 remained unchanged. Trading volume stood at 58 million shares, with a value of Rs2.43 billion across 31,322 trades.
The weak start comes after the bourse had closed last week on a positive trajectory, as buying returned to PSX amid supportive macroeconomic developments.
Analysts noted that investor confidence was buoyed by improving economic indicators and policy clarity, helping the index recover from earlier bouts of volatility.
However, Monday’s opening suggests profit-taking and cautious sentiment are back in play, with traders awaiting fresh cues on inflation trends, fiscal measures, and regional developments.
