Kylian Mbappe netted a late winner to give Paris Saint-Germain a narrow 2-1 victory over a solid Nice side.
PSG controlled the game from the start, was the superior team before halftime, and took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark.
A free kick was given to the Ligue 1 winners outside of Nice’s penalty area, with specialist Lionel Messi stepping up to send the ball in the top right corner.
With his first goal for Nice, Gaetan Laborde pounced from close range to startle the home team and tie the score.
However, substitue Mbappe’s goal in the 83rd minute gave PSG their eighth straight victory across all competitions.
Just before the hour mark, the French striker came in to replace Hugo Ekitike, slotting in from Nordi Mukiele’s cutback.
Since replacing Mauricio Pochettino as manager in the summer with Christophe Galtier, who led Nice last season, PSG have not lost.
With eight victories and a draw from nine games, they take the lead. With seven victories and two draws, Marseille, who drops to second place, is likewise unblemished.
